What is Akaru?

Akaru is a space where wellness and creativity come together creating time for you to challenge your artistic practice and return to yourself. Located in the pacific coastline of Nicaragua near Leon, tucked away a small beach town called Poneloya— find yourself in our retreat colonial style home.

We welcome all types of artists—painters, ceramists, sculptors, writers, musicians— creators, yogis, or anyone who just wants to disconnect to reconnect. To ask yourself the questions that will allow you to grow— to become more you.

Our indoor/outdoor studio is a haven for creators— equipped with easels, a ceramic wheel, and endless inspiration. Whether you’re a seasoned artist or simply curious to explore, this space invites you to play, express, and connect.

Wellness

At Akaru, wellness is rooted in simplicity—moving your body, breathing deeply, and nourishing yourself with fresh, locally sourced food. Our days flow with yoga, mindful practices, and the rhythm of the ocean, giving you space to release stress and reconnect with your body.

We believe that movement and clean food elevate mental health, creating clarity and vitality. Whether it’s stretching in the morning light, enjoying a vibrant meal harvested from the land and sea, or taking a meditative walk on the beach, wellness at Akaru is about cultivating balance and presence.

Creativity at Akaru is a shared journey. Our residency brings together artists, makers, and seekers in a supportive community where ideas and inspiration flow freely. In our indoor-outdoor studio, you’ll find space to explore your craft—whether through painting, ceramics, writing, or music—while learning from the perspectives of others.
